Mesquite High School on Lockdown Tuesday Afternoon

Update at 4:48 p.m.: The district said on Facebook around 4:25 p.m. that the suspect was in police custody and students would be released "in a few minutes."

Original story:

Mesquite High School students and faculty remained on lockdown after the normal school day ended Tuesday afternoon because of a suicide situation in a nearby bank parking lot.

The Dallas Morning News reported that an armed man was threatening to kill himself in the parking lot of Advancial Federal Credit Union on S. Bryan Belt Line Road, which led administrators to lock down Agnew Middle School and Florence Black Elementary School.

Around 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, Mesquite Police allowed Florence Black and Agnew students who were being picked up by parents or riding the bus to be released, but Mesquite High students were not permitted to leave.

Mesquite ISD wrote the following on its Facebook page Tuesday:

Police have authorized us to release students at Agnew and Black who ride the bus as well as students who are being picked up by a parent or other authorized adult. Other students will remain at school. MHS remains on lockdown. No MHS students will be released at this time.
