Keep Mesquite Beautiful volunteer and model Avery Whitt models a dress made from local recycled items.

The Recycling Fashion Show’s Great Big Spooky-Wooky Recycled Costume Contest is just two weeks away.

This year’s event will be held October 18 at Town East Mall.  Students aged 5 through college and groups/businesses are invited to enter this runway-style fashion show to show off their best costume made from recycled materials.

For the first time in the show’s history, local businesses and community groups are invited to participate by entering a costume in the show.  In this category, adults and children are able to participate.

For a nominal fee, students can design their costumes and model their fashions.  Costumes can later be used for Halloween. Cash prizes are given in award categories by age level.

It’s all in an effort to change the way our residents think about what they pitch into the trash every day. The photographed dress, which was designed and built by Keep Mesquite Beautiful board members, includes computer components donated by ECS, an electronics recycler in Mesquite.  Vinyl from a used billboard was donated by Clear Channel media.  Remaining items found in recycling bins round out this rendition of Alice in Wonderland's Queen of Hearts.

Details for the fashion show and Recycles Day can be found online at www.keepmesquitebeautiful.org
