Celebrate Black History Month with the Dallas Mavericks, BNSF Railway and the Dallas Museum of Art!

(DALLAS, TX)- In celebration of Black History Month, the Dallas Mavericks, BNSF Railway and the Dallas Museum of Art will provide DFW Metroplex middle and high school students the opportunity to compete in the 7th Annual Mavs Black History Month Challenge.

2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the most sweeping civil rights legislation since Reconstruction. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination of any kind based on race, color, religion, or national origin. To participate in the 2015 Black History Month Challenge, complete an original artistic project and brief essay in response to the following prompt:

Celebrating America: My Contributions for a Better Tomorrow!

Submissions should be in the form of a 2D visual art piece (drawing, painting, photography, etc.). All artwork must be 11” tall x 17” wide and students must include a typed essay, less than one page, explaining their artistic interpretation of the prompt.

Three winners will be selected and will receive Mavs prizes, along with tickets to the Mavs vs. Thunder game on Monday, March 16th. Winning projects will be displayed at the Dallas Museum of Art from March 15- March 21 and a special reception will be held to celebrate the winners on Sunday, March 15th.

Applications are available at Mavs.com/Community and entries are due into the Mavs offices by Friday, February 27, 2015.
