Texas Regional Medical Center at Sunnyvale’s recently-promoted CIO, Rob McDonald, was named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s 100 Hospital and Health System CIOs to Know. The national list includes CIOs and leaders of health information technology and information services programs.

In its announcement article, Becker’s states the men and women listed demonstrate “exemplary commitment to the pursuit of innovative health technology and IT programs as a means to achieving coordinated care delivery that is of higher quality.”

At the time of his nomination, McDonald was TRMC-Sunnyvale’s director of information technology and his promotion was in the works. The promotion was announced recently.

“Running a community hospital these days calls for much more than just top-quality medical care,” said Stephen Garrison, CEO of TRMC-Sunnyvale. “McDonald successfully oversees Texas Regional Medical Center at Sunnyvale’s technology budget, design and implementation and helps the hospital maintain its reputation as one of the North Texas area’s technologically advanced hospitals. Recognition from Becker’s brings more attention to all the wonderful work McDonald does for the hospital every day," Garrison said.

McDonald was instrumental in the recent implementation of TRMC-Sunnyvale’s computerized physician order-entry system, which allows all the hospital’s 256 physicians on staff to send their medical orders electronically. He also participated in a recent panel discussion and webinar, where he shared how TRMC-Sunnyvale protects radiology diagnostic images and other patient data with an advanced archive system.

McDonald, a Lavon resident, also is the owner and sole proprietor of Lavon-based Resurgent Tech, an information technology and information security firm he founded in 2005. Resurgent works with many health care, enterprise and government organizations.

McDonald was part of the team that opened TRMC-Sunnyvale in September 2009.

“To me, TRMC-Sunnyvale represents what a community hospital should be today,” McDonald said. “We strive every day to bring the best possible care and experience to our community; we are committed to leveraging the most current technology possible to help deliver this vision of quality, efficiency and patient experience," he said.

“Our leadership is devoted to agility, ensuring that we can bring relevant technology features to the community faster than other health care facilities in the area.”
